The role
To support the continued growth and development of the EU Public Affairs function, we are looking for a new Associate Director to join our team. The successful candidate will have a passion for politics and a shrewd understanding of the EU political and regulatory landscape, in particular in Digital Services or Connectivity/Telecoms. You will be someone who is committed to delivering excellence and thrives in a fast-paced environment. You will provide cutting edge regulatory & political analysis and engagement advice to our clients, helping them assess risks and opportunities in the political environment.
You may have experience working for the EU institutions, a think tank, in-house or a trade association. Wider public affairs experience is welcome but not necessary.
Responsibilities will include the following:
Client Servicing
- Provides strategic regulatory & political analysis and engagement advice and manages the delivery to clients
- Manages the overall client relationships on a portfolio of client accounts, demonstrating strong lateral thinking and problem resolution skills
- Oversees and quality controls aspects of the client programmes drawing on critical thinking skills and an analytical aptitude
- Is consistently focussed on adding value to clients and recognises opportunities to extend the relationships
Leadership & Development
- Successfully manages junior colleagues on accounts, including delegation, motivation, supervision and development
- Gives final approval of work created by more junior colleagues, providing coaching and effective feedback
- Makes constructive proposals for changing and improving working practices in the team.
Business Development
- Has good presentation skills and influencing skills, playing a significant role in pitches
- Plays an active role in the development of well-structured and creative new business proposals and pitch presentations working collaboratively with senior colleagues
- Actively networks and builds relationships with external influencers and potential new business leads
The ideal candidate profile:
- Is passionate about excellence, and thrives in a fast-paced environment
- Has a shrewd understanding of the EU political and regulatory landscape, in particular in Digital Services or Connectivity/Telecoms
- Has a good Brussels network
- Has experience working for the EU institutions, a think tank, an agency, in-house or a trade association
- Is interested in current affairs and the intersection of business, politics and society
- Has experience as a people manager and leader.
- Can confidently advise on policy and engagement
- Has excellent interpersonal skills to encourage respectful debate and is not afraid to offer contrarian views, take risks or swim against the tide
- Has first class verbal and written communications skills.
